Murat Belge has been serving as head of the Department of Comparative Literature at Bilgi University, Istanbul since 1996. He is editor at Iletisim Publishing House and Yeni Gündem, a weekly political magazine, and writes columns for the daily newspaper Taraf and the center-left daily Radikal. In 1990, he participated in the founding meeting of the Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly and served on its Executive Council for two consecutive terms. Belge was a member of the organizing committee for a two-day academic conference in September 2005 held at Bilgi University in Istanbul titled "Ottoman Armenians During the Decline of the Empire: Issues of Scientific Responsibility and Democracy."
