Milking Units Project Report

Rural Newsletters

This past week we were able to make a real progress in the process of acquiring the milking units. The week started with yet another meeting with the Ashtarak Kat’s representatives to finalize the agreements and understand the overall procedure from purchase to delivery of the milking units. During this meeting Ashtarak Kat’s representatives pointed out that there is a company in Yerevan that imports similar machines from Turkey and they have already had experience of purchasing one of these units. They were happy with the quality and the price of the units.

Earlier we have contacted the Iranian producer and required them to send us the prices, as we were concerned that the cost of the units may have changed.

After a phone call to the local company we decided to pay them a visit and check out the milking units and understand whether we can collaborate with them and make the process of delivery faster and more efficient.

meeting

To make sure that the machines are checked for quality and overall technical specifications are tested and verified, we made the visit together with the experts and managers from the Ashtarak Kat.

milking_unitAgroholding LLC, that is selling the units, is a private company that is mainly importing animal husbandry and dairy production equipment starting from electro-shepherd to fences to feeding pail to milking units and milking parlors and most importantly they import the spare parts as well as have the experts to train and to offer a post-warranty service to their customers.

After an hour long meeting we have decided to purchase two milking units and deliver them to two beneficiaries as a test run. If everything goes smoothly we can work out a delivery schedule and start the project implementation in full scale.

There were several obvious advantages of buying these machines locally first of all we wouldn’t have to import them and it would be much faster, on the other hand there won’t be any need in going through the customs as the units are already customs cleared and ready for delivery. Another advantage is the price, the local company sells milking units that milk two cows simultaneously for almost the same price as the one cow milking unit that we had to import (taking into consideration the transportation and customs fees).

As a result of the meeting we have decided to purchase these units and after discussing with the Ashtarak Kat made a decision to place them in Chambarak and Privolnoye border communities.

mapPrivolnoye community is located in Lori region and is close to the border of Armenia and Georgia, the community has 1,022 residents.

Chamabrak is located in Gegharkunik region on the border of Armenia and Azerbaijan and has a population of 6,683.

Both communities were once established by Russian immigrants in the 19th century.

Currently, these are farming communities, mainly populated by Armenians, some of them are refugees from Azerbaijan.

In both of these communities Ashtarak Kat has milk collection centers.

We have already started the process of fund transfer and will be delivering these units most probably next week. We will keep you posted through reports or e-mails.
